Tackling Potholes in South Lanarkshire
Figures obtained by the Scottish Conservatives show the staggering waste of public money caused by poor road maintenance.
The Conservatives have obtained information showing that over £215,000 was paid out by South Lanarkshire Council in compensation to drivers for damage caused by potholes and poorly maintained roads.
Allan Finnie, Conservative candidate for Avondale and Stonehouse said “In these tough economic times, every penny of taxpayers money has to be accounted for. To find that such a huge sum of money is being wasted needlessly is simply beyond belief.
“Having experienced first hand the badly neglected streets in Strathaven, it is sadly unsurprising that South Lanarkshire is one of the worst council areas. We only need to look at such roads as Thomson Street to see the potential for further claims to be made.
“The Conservatives in South Lanarkshire have pushed for investment in our roads and pavements, and so far we have seen some movement. I will be fighting for further improvements to be made over the coming months.
